Thailand’s billionaire and former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was released from jail on Monday morning after serving eight months over corruption and abuse of power charges.

Thaksin, 76, was granted parole. He will have to wear an electronic monitoring device and comply with certain parole conditions for the next four months until his term concludes on September 9, the Department of Probation said in a statement Monday.
