Forbes Daily: Venture Capital Backs ‘AI-Native’ College Alternative
Venture capital will soon back a new “AI-native” alternative to college.
VC firm Andreessen Horowitz is investing $35 million into a for-profit academy in San Francisco, which will accept an initial class of about 50 students for a free, one-year program. If approved by regulators, the school plans to charge a tuition “equal or more to elite private universities” for a full two-year program. The school’s CEO, Udemy co-founder Gagan Biyani, said the vast majority of students’ time will be spent working on projects or building out their ideas.
The effort is part of a growing push in Silicon Valley to bypass traditional education in favor of a hands-on apprenticeship, and applications for the first class are open.
