Forbes Daily: Oracle Slumps After Data Center ‘Force Majeure’ Notice

Oracle shares took a hit Thursday as the tech giant issued a “force majeure” notice for a major data center project.

The move is an effort by Oracle to protect itself from having to make payments if its New Mexico project dubbed “Project Jupiter” were to fail, though force majeure is usually used when companies face extreme circumstances beyond their control, like natural disasters.

But even as the tech firm’s stock plunged 3.5%, Oracle vice president Michael Egbert said in a statement to Forbes that the project remains on schedule.
