GUEST APPEARANCE: NYS sheriffs' lawsuit adds to unrest
Shame on the New York county sheriffs who have filed a lawsuit against Gov. Hochul’s “Local Cops, Local Crimes,” which was passed by the NYS legislature and prohibits NYS law enforcement from entering 287(g) agreements and aiding federal immigration agents.
You are supposed to be protecting our communities, not help ripping them apart.
A recent WXXI article published on Sept. 1 reports that records show ICE arrests across upstate New York have doubled in recent months. Total arrests across upstate topped 600 in July.
For our nation, daily detainment data reports 1,100 people per day physically removed from their homes and neighborhoods in this country. That’s a massive amount of heartache and violence and drama played out repeatedly in our neighborhoods.
I had my own experience with ICE this year when they were at the end of my street, in the middle of our morning rush hour. A car accident and a foot chase resulted. Is this making our streets safer?
