About a year ago, Waterloo-based software company OpenText announced its “OpenText trusts OpenText” vision — its goal of realizing $1 billion in cost savings over the next decade by using its own products to improve efficiency, productivity and the customer experience. I was reminded of OpenText’s initiative by a headline last week: “Canada Post strike wreaking havoc on municipal elections across the country.” The two unrelated events highlight the difference between the private sector and the public sector. A private company can trust its own products to increase operational efficiency, but not even government can trust government to work.
