Why AI model releases feel nonstop

OpenAI and Anthropic are putting out more models, but much of the acceleration comes from repackaging existing advances for new price points.

Another day, another frontier AI model announcement—actually two of them, one from Anthropic and one from OpenAI. It feels like new model releases are accelerating, and they are, but many of the new releases are models that repackage (and often reprice) the capabilities of earlier flagship models.

Both of Tuesday’s releases are examples. OpenAI announced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna—faster, more affordable models that bring the advances behind its flagship GPT-6 Astra “to everyday work.” Anthropic........
