Fight for what you care for through peaceful persuasion

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late US Supreme Court Justice, said, “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

Ginsburg believed in persuasion through being thoughtful, gentle and not aggressive.

Last week we saw the assassination of the American political activist Charlie Kirk. His not for profit organisation Turning Point USA advocated for conservative politics on high school and university campuses.

Unusually in this day and age, Charlie Kirk engaged in open debate as he toured US colleges giving straight answers to straight questions from students.

Many people may well have disagreed with his views on some topics, but he was entitled to express them peacefully.

We now live in a society so polarised and intolerant that opinions can be silenced by bullets; violence; intimidation; and the weaponisation of the law........
