'Our children don't deserve to be growing up in poverty'

IT’S hard to remember a time when things were as grim for Glasgow as they are just now, and in a city as rich in spirit and community as Glasgow, it is a disgrace that more than 33,000 of our children are growing up in poverty.

Figures published in The Herald last week paint a bleak picture: in some parts of the city, including Southside Central and my own ward, Calton, child poverty rates now exceed 50 per cent. In one of the UK’s wealthiest countries, these levels of hardship are not just unacceptable – they are avoidable.

The blame for this crisis lies squarely with both the SNP........
