If you grew up in the '50s or '60s, I'm sure you remember the words to that hit song, "We will have these moments to remember......"
We all have memories of certain events that are still vivid in our minds, and I sure do. I guess the first one is when I was about 12 or 13 years old, and we had moved out to a little farm about a mile from Norphlet on the El Dorado Highway. I had been given a big brown hound dog about a year earlier, and we had become inseparable. Sniffer, the dog, went everywhere I went. He slept on the end of my bed, trotted ahead of me when I ran my paper route and would wait at the edge of the schoolyard each day for me to get out of school. Of all the memories I have from those preteen and teen years, that dog is prominent, but there is one memory that stands out.
We lived in a rent house on this little 20-acre farm, and in exchange for rent our family was responsible for the upkeep of the elderly father of the farm's owner. Mr. Harris was almost blind, and he lived in a little apartment adjacent to our house.
Less than a couple of hundred yards from our house was a creek bottom where I fished and........
