If the new U.S.-Canada trade deal — details to come — revives the Keystone XL pipeline project, as U.S. President Donald Trump hinted in announcing the trade agreement had been reached, it would be a good deal for Canada.

As Trump described it on Truth Social in announcing he was temporarily suspending his 50% tariffs on $28 billion worth of Canadian goods that were supposed to go into effect August 19: “The great Keystone XL Pipeline, long ago killed by Sleepy Joe Biden, may be awoken from the grave!”

He also posted an AI-generated image of himself dramatically ripping the pipeline out of a gravesite labelled “Buried by Biden” with a sign saying “KEYSTONE PIPELINE COMPLETELY FREE ENERGY, JOBS, AMERICA FIRST” between two American flags.

Given Trumps propensity for bombast, whether it actually happens — and there is no word yet from the Carney government on Trump’s reference to the Keystone XL — is anyone’s guess.

But if it did, it would benefit Canada.

Had the Keystone XL been approved, it would have generated an estimated $30........
