When the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks takes place two weeks from now, CBC journalists will not be allowed to call them terrorist attacks. Those same CBC journalists can quote someone calling the attacks terrorism, but as a new memo to staff issued this week shows, journalists can’t use that description themselves.

“Do not refer to the Sept. 11 attacks as terrorist attacks,” reads the memo from Basem Boshra, CBC’s Senior Director of Journalistic Standards and Public Trust.

“The hijackings led to passenger jet crashes in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and Manhattan,” the memo states.

Well, don’t blame terrorism. That’s a loaded word, and CBC doesn’t want to use it.

There were 2,977 people killed in the 9/11 attacks, not counting the terrorist scum who carried out the cowardly assaults. There were also 24 Canadians killed in the attacks, and families who lost loved ones have never been the same.

I’m not looking for CBC to start encouraging its journalists to call the 19 al-Qaida hijackers “terrorist scum,” but they should be able to call the deadliest........
