Lost amid all of that, though, were further signs that the Trump administration is taking an active interest in Alberta. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the White House views a potential independence referendum as something to exploit. We should pay close attention to that.

Given the Alberta government’s role in the nature and timing of such a vote — and, of course, in deciding whether it occurs — it would be helpful to know to what extent this is on their radar, what their level of concern is and........
