Black Shuck Festival in Bungay is holding a fundraising night at the Fisher Theatre on Wednesday, March 18 for those who cannot wait for the three-day celebration of East Anglian folklore this summer.

The evening will see live performances from Roger Eno, Polly Wright of The Feathered Thorns, and William Fergusson, along with film footage from the Black Shuck Festival and the old Albion Fairs.

Didy Ward, festival organiser said: "As the festival has grown, it is now an important part of the Bungay calendar, so has its costs and this fundraiser is to help cover the costs of the storage of props and costumes."

The festival celebrates the legend of the Black Shuck, where in 1577 a wild black dog is said to have burst through the doors of St Mary's Church in Bungay killing two praying parishioners during a storm.

The story has shaped the town ever since and the image of the Black Shuck has been incorporated into the town's coat of arms and depicted on buildings, and the ghoulish beast's name used in the names of local businesses.

Part of the fundraiser is a raffle, made possible by the support from a variety of Bungay businesses.

Prizes include a hamper of goodies from Flint Vineyard, Fen Farm, the Earsham Street Deli, the Little Green Wholefood shop and more.

Locals can also win vouchers for tea for two at The Old Bank Tearoom, Earsham Street Café and Bigod's Kitchen, as well as vouchers from The Green Dragon, Pink Tiffin, and the Secret Sauna.

Tickets for the raffle are available from the Fisher Theatre and shops FuzzypegFolk and Crocks.

Locals keen to attend the special taster event can buy tickets from the Fisher Theatre box office or online at www.fishertheatre.org.
