Family 'devastated' after report reveals trust altered autism assessment report

The case, involving a family from Lowestoft, has been highlighted in a major report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) examining problems facing ADHD and autism services across England.

The man, now 20, has been asked to be referred to as Mr C to protect his and his family's anonymity, and was just 12 years old when the events occurred in 2018 and 2019.

Now it has been revealed that the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust withheld key information from Mr C's parents following an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment and changed the conclusion within the assessment paperwork.

Assessment findings questioned

Although an initial screening autism assessment, known as an Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, gave him a score which fell within the "autism" category, the trust later told his parents he did not meet the criteria for an autism diagnosis.

An anonymous Suffolk family said a delayed autism diagnosis had a lasting impact on education, mental health and family life. (Image:........
