Campaign pressure pays off as bus firm dismisses fears of further cuts
People in Bungay, Halesworth and surrounding villages have been fighting since the daytime X41 service to and from Norwich was withdrawn, and much of the route was reduced to an hourly service in September.
It had led to fears that further cuts could be made, including Halesworth losing the service.
First Bus has now reassured locals, and in a statement the operator said: “We did not, at any time, have any further planned reductions in service in March 2027.”

The development follows sustained pressure from Bungay Town Council, Bungay Traffic Forum and locals after it was revealed that further cuts could be on the horizon.
A Suffolk County Council (SCC) spokesman previously said that Norfolk County Council (NCC) had paid to enhance the service between Bungay and Norwich in 2023 but that funding expired in March 2026 and “as the route is not carrying enough people to cover the costs”, the operator then approached SCC and NCC for help.
