New book recalls Norfolk links to World Cup finals

Sixty years on, hat-trick hero Geoff Hurst is the only surviving member of the team which triumphed at Wembley Stadium.

But the other England goalscorer on that memorable afternoon is still fondly remembered in Norfolk footballing circles.

Such was the late, great Martin Peters' love of football that once his professional career ended, he was only too happy to put something back into the local game.

He turned out on Thursday afternoons for Yarmouth-based JJ Fun City and in 1984 enjoyed a nostalgic return to Carrow Road when the side reached the Norfolk Thursday Cup final.

Facing Martin in the final were none other than Norwich Prison and their tale of an extraordinary "day out" is told so well in The Midweek Men by local football........
