Jarrolds reveals new plans to expand Norfolk farm shop and café complex

Jarrolds has sought permission from North Norfolk District Council for adaptations at its Jarrolds Letheringsett complex by the A148, near Holt, as it plans to launch a new range of products.

This includes changing the existing covered seating area for the farm shop and café into a retail area to sell a variety of new "lifestyle" items synonymous with the brand.

The firm also hopes to convert another redundant agricultural building on the site into a new covered seating area and for hospitality use to "encourage greater dwell time on the site and support additional events".

Documents said that if the proposal is approved, "it will secure the long-term commercial viability of the Jarrolds Letheringsett complex and provide an enhanced visitor experience".

It added: "Using the wider site, adjacent courtyard and buildings will enable us to make the site a more attractive and compelling destination."

The documents said that while the proposed development introduces additional retail use onto the site, it will not generate additional visitors "above the trip generation that is already achieved from the farm shop and café."

It comes after the council agreed that Jarrolds can continue using buildings for a bakery, florist and storage earlier this year.

The facilities at the former Back to the Garden site, which Jarrolds took over in October 2024, did not have proper permission but had nevertheless been in use for more than 10 years.

So the firm had applied to regularise and formalise the uses and works within these buildings through a retrospective planning application, which the council then approved.

Best-known for its Norwich department store with its acclaimed deli, the family-owned business has been operating in the county for more than 200 years.
