Carnival's firework display cancelled after government issues severe alert

The organisers of Cromer Carnival have announced that the display, which was supposed to take place on August 20, will no longer go ahead.

It comes after a severe alert was issued by the government yesterday evening to millions of people's phones, warning of a "high risk" of wildfires.

A post from the carnival's Facebook account said: "Having considered the latest guidance and advice, we have made the responsible decision that the display cannot safely go ahead.

"We are disappointed that the fireworks cannot go ahead, but we are confident that cancelling them is the right decision in the circumstances.
