Girlfriend woke to find boyfriend dead in bed after night of cocaine and spice

Kane Hawes, of Parkway, Gaywood, King’s Lynn, died from combined drug toxicity after consuming the substances on October 23, 2025.

His girlfriend, Ugne Kasatkinaite, who had been in a relationship with him for just two months and did not take drugs herself, woke the following morning to find him unresponsive beside her.

The resumed inquest at Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard Mr Hawes had experienced a difficult childhood marked by time in care, mental health problems and substance misuse.

Giving evidence, Ms Kasatkinaite said she arrived at his flat on the evening of October 23 and found one of his friends already there.

“When I got there his friend was there and I saw that he had cocaine on him,” she said.

“It was on the table and there were nitrous oxide canisters. He snorted it three or four times. I had a headache. I sat on the bed. I told Kane to stop but he kept snorting and taking the canister.”

The full-time student told the court she did not take any drugs and was unaware Mr Hawes was a drug user.
