'Financially exploited' widow spent £20k in weeks before fatal relapse
Sara King, 57, who had a long history of alcohol dependency and substance misuse, had achieved periods of recovery before the death of Jeremy King.
But following his death in October 2024, the vulnerable Norwich woman suffered a significant relapse, Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard.
Joanne King, her daughter-in-law, told a hearing this week that the family became increasingly concerned about her welfare in the months before her death.
“She stayed with us and we supported her, but we were concerned about her managing independently,” she said.
“She inherited a significant sum of money, and we became concerned about her drug use - including crack cocaine.”

She added that she frequently contacted police to request welfare checks when her mother-in-law failed to answer her phone.
