Jacob Mann from Norwich runs The Tomato Cart, a custom-built trailer he cycles around the city to sell homegrown tomato plants.

Having started the business at age 13, he has spent the winter expanding his offering to include 'Grow Your Own Greatness' tomato kits, which have attracted customers from across the UK.

He revealed that his love for growing fruit and vegetables began during lockdown and has continued ever since.

"Loads of people have supported me since I started The Tomato Cart," Jacob said.

"Some people come and buy plants, some people follow along online, and lots of people just stop to chat when they see the trailer.

"It’s really cool seeing people grow tomatoes from seeds I packed myself."

As spring begins, Jacob is preparing to relaunch his mobile cart with a new batch of tomato plants grown at home.

In the meantime, he is selling his grow kits online via Etsy and at Black Barn Farm.

This weekend, he will be at Black Barn Farm market with his special Mother’s Day kit, named 'Some Mothers Do Love ’Em'.

He will be at the market throughout March as his latest crop matures and expects the trailer to be fully stocked with plants by the end of the month, including popular varieties such as Sungold and San Marzano.

The teen also has big ambitions for the future, with hopes to study horticulture at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Jacob said when he started the business, he chose tomatoes because they are relatively easy to grow, healthy to eat and come in lots of varieties.

Some of his favourites include Aurora Blue, known for its deep midnight blue colour, and Wolverine, which shares its black and yellow hues with the famous Marvel superhero.
