Man caught red-handed trying to steal from B&M store

Lowestoft Police saw the man trying to take goods from the B&M in the Bittern Centre on Wednesday night.

Officers were patrolling the shopping area when they spotted him setting off the alarms.

They confirmed he has been "dealt with" and will be sent to court.

It is not known how much the goods the suspect tried to take cost, but the courts are coming down harder on those accused of theft.

In February of this year, the Crime and Policing Bill was updated with the aim of removing the perceived immunity granted to shop theft of goods to the value of £200 or less.

This will ensure that all offences are tried as ‘general theft', which allows for tougher outcomes in court.
