Taila Taylor's sudden resignation from Attleborough Town Council is the latest twist in one of Norfolk's most turbulent local political disputes in recent memory.

The Conservative has left with immediate effect, saying the authority was no longer "functioning or delivering effectively for residents".

She has found herself facing a barrage of scrutiny since March when she repeatedly refused to confirm whether she had donated £10,000 to a local charity as required under a 2021 legal settlement with her own council.

The £20,000 settlement followed a successful legal claim from her in which a judge ruled she had been unlawfully removed from committee roles and defamed by the authority.

It included a clause requiring her to pass half of the money she received to a local charity or project based in the town.

Ms Taylor has declined to say if she has paid the money although she says she has continued to donate to charity.

She claims the council did not meet its own obligations under the settlement and that this removed the requirement for her to make the charitable donation.

The row soon spiralled into calls for her resignation, clashes with the public and a vote by her own authority to hire independent lawyers to examine its legal........
