Bin strike begins as summer of stink looms over seaside resort

Around 100 Great Yarmouth Services (GYS) staff – including bin collectors, street cleaners, gardeners and grave diggers – walked out on Thursday morning (August 6) in a row over pay.

It comes after unions rejected a 3.3pc pay offer and demanded a 20pc rise to match wages in Norwich, Broadland and Lowestoft.

The workers will also strike on August 7, 10, 11 and 12 - with industrial action expected to intensify if the row is not resolved.

Bin workers have voted for strike action in Great Yarmouth.
