Here are five stretches of sand and sea that have made a splash and caught critics’ attention as some of the best in the country this summer.

Mundesley in north Norfolk recently ranked seventh in a new UK-wide top 10 list of the best summer destinations for coastal adventures.

The research, compiled by sports travel insurance provider SportsCover Direct, evaluated beaches based on water quality, Blue Flag and Seaside Awards, RNLI lifeguard coverage, summer sunshine hours and sea temperatures.

It was the only beach in the East of England to make the top 10.

The beach is "full of rare birds"

Holkham has been recognised by Time Out Magazine as "easily one of the best-looking beaches in the UK".
