Childcare centre in village to close after 20 years

Litcham Childcare has announced that July 17 will be its final day after being an important part of the community for more than 20 years.

It is currently operating from a purpose-built building on the site of Litcham School.

The centre offers care and support for children between the ages of two and four, with wrap-around care for those up to the age of 11.

A spokesman for Litcham Childcare said: "Understandably, all staff and trustees are very sad about the closure.

"We have been part of the Litcham community for well over 20 years and it will indeed be a great loss to all."

In a letter sent to parents on Friday morning, the centre said the decision was due to multiple factors, including "low birth rate, rising costs, falling child numbers in the catchment area and the school expanding its provision".

After exploring all options, it was decided that it would have to stop operating at the end of the summer term.

The letter also stated: "We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your continued support, trust and partnership.

"It has been a privilege to care and support your children over the many years we have been part of this community.

"Please be mindful that this has also come as a great shock to all staff and trustees."
