Anger as workers move in to build massive housing developement

Marriott’s Park, on land near Thorpe Marriott, will consist of 1,500 homes with space for a primary school, GP surgery and shops.

But the plans have drawn criticism from neighbours and officials who are concerned about how the current infrastructure will cope with the 193-acre development - especially as the proposals do not guarantee a new medical facility.

Despite the development being approved by Broadland District Council in September last year, people living near the site have vented their anger over the scheme as workmen start to move in.

'THERE'S ALREADY ISSUES'

Justin McKenzie, who has lived in Naber Furlong - opposite the site - for 20 years, said: "There's already issues with surgeries locally.

"It's impossible to get seen as it is because they're stretched so thin, so that has to be in place from the off with the site.

"Obviously schools need to be in place and shops would be ideal because loading 1,500 new homes on to the existing infrastructure would just be a non-starter.

"The other concern is getting the staff in quickly for these sites, as well as trying to strike a balance to make sure everything is built together.

"However with a development like this, it won't happen like that - with small pieces built at a time - then there comes a point where it becomes unsustainable either way.
