Bun X are the new landlords of Micawbers Taverns in Pottergate after nearly three years in the pub's kitchen.

The burger business first started at the site as a pop-up in 2023, with the spot proving so popular that it became a regular fixture.

Owner Jeff Taylor has now revealed that he had signed the lease for the site.

"It’s been in the pipeline for a few months, but we have got it over the line," he said.

"We now have the responsibility and commitment to keep this corner beautiful and maintained.

"A huge undertaking for a 270-year-old building.

"We have a little more freedom and a little bit of wiggle room to take this space to the next level."

The burger business has won numerous awards, including Street Food Dish of the Year at the Street Food Championships 2025, after chef James Thacker cooked up a storm in the kitchen.

Bun X has also made it to Burger Fest, where 16 of the UK’s top burger outlets will battle it out to be crowned best in the country.

With everyone in hospitality feeling increasing pressure, Bun X is working hard to keep prices down, promising to always have a £5 pint, a £5 cocktail and keeping its popular "sharing feasts" on the menu.

"There have been so many stories about how hard the industry is, but we are looking to buck the trend," Mr Taylor added.

"Our focus is on building solid relationships with our suppliers that go a little beyond the usual ‘price per unit'.

"We have built a great community with Bun X, and hopefully, we now have the freedom to expand on that.

"Even though we already have a huge and loyal following, we are just gonna be asking for that support to continue.

"We need it more than ever now."

Bun X will host a relaunch party on March 24, with an open house from 5pm.
