Slow hand claps in council chamber as members skip meeting over convicted colleague

Attleborough Town Council held an extraordinary meeting to decide what action should be taken after Stephen Fraser pleaded guilty over the late-night drunken incident in the town centre.

However, out of 14 councillors, only four attended.

Another five councillors turned up to a full council meeting, held an hour later in the same room, to slow handclaps from members of the public who had gone along to watch proceedings.

The bizarre scenes are the latest in an bitter feud between the council and locals in the town, which has seen it dubbed "Aggroborough" and "Battleborough".

The councillor - who also sits on Breckland Council - pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Norwich Magistrates' Court last month, saying he was too drunk to remember the incident.
