Thorpe St Andrew School reopened today following the incident which left many parents and pupils shocked and terrified following the attack on a teenage girl.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent on Pound Lane about an hour after teachers at the school barricaded their classrooms and a campus-wide lockdown was enforced.

Police have installed a cordon around the wooded area near where he was arrested, which remains in place this morning.

Officers manning the cordon say they are unsure of how long it will be kept up.

Panicked parents rushed to the school after finding out about the lockdown and waited for hours for news of their children inside the building.

Ian Mackie, Norfolk County Councillor for Thorpe St Andrew, condemned the act.

He said: "Our first thoughts are very much with the girl and her family, the whole community is shocked and will want to join me in sending our best wishes for her recovery from this traumatic experience."
