Contingency plans in place ahead of week-long bin strike over pay

Around 100 Great Yarmouth Services (GYS) workers – including bin collectors, street cleaners, gardeners and grave diggers – will walk out from Thursday, August 6.

This comes after unions rejected a 3.3pc pay offer and demanded a 20pc rise to match wages in Norwich, Broadland and Lowestoft.

Unite, which represents the majority of the striking workers, says many staff earn only “pennies above the minimum wage” and accuses the council of offering “poverty pay” that leaves workers worse off than........
