North West Norfolk MP James Wild ran 26 miles through the capital on Sunday (April 26) in aid of the 8:56 Foundation.

The King's Lynn charity was set up in 2021, in memory of businessman and King's Lynn Town fan Lee Calton.

Financial advisor Mr Calton took his life at the age of 37 and the foundation, named after the 8:56 train the football fan used to take to follow the Linnets, was set up to raise awareness of men's mental health.

Through sport-based community programmes, wellbeing initiatives and accessible talking therapy, the Foundation helps men to talk, connect and seek support before reaching crisis point.

Mr Calton had himself run the London Marathon to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Mr Wild's pounding of the capital's pavements raised more than £5,500 for the 8:56 Foundation.

This was the Conservative MP's sixth marathon, and he completed it in three hours 54 minutes and 40 seconds.

"Having said after previous London Marathons I wouldn’t do another one, I’m very pleased to have run it for a sixth time and to have raised important funds for the 8:56 Foundation," he said.

“Running is important to my wellbeing so I wanted to support a charity making a real difference locally.

"I’m very grateful for the generous donations and, having lost a friend who tragically took his own life, knowing the money raised will help people who really need it through 8:56 Foundation spurred me on.”

Abbie Panks, trustee of the 8:56 Foundation, said: "Every donation will help us reach more men across Norfolk with earlier, easier access to support - whether that’s through our sport-based programmes, wellbeing initiatives or Talking Therapy sessions.

“James’ commitment and the generosity of everyone who donated will make a real difference.”
