Jake Quickenden appeared in court after admitting to using his phone while driving along Bracondale on June 17 this year.

The 37-year-old found fame on The X Factor in 2014 and later became a runner-up on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!.

He told Colchester Magistrates' Court on July 23 that the offence occurred when he was heading home after work and was inputting his address for a long drive in his VW Golf.

After putting his phone in a holder and driving on, police stopped him at a nearby roundabout and he admitted guilt at the scene.

“Firstly, massive lack in judgement," he told magistrates. "It was stupid on my part.

“It couldn’t have been in my hand any longer than 20 to 30........
