Police were called in the early hours of Sunday morning (2.20am) after a woman was found dead in a home in Dersingham.
The woman was named locally as Hannah Cain, a GP who is known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry.
She is believed to have been a mother with young children.
It is understood that other children were in the home at the time and had to be taken home by police in the middle of the night to their parents.
The incident happened at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, a large village next to the Sandringham estate.
A man in his 40s was arrested.

On Monday night, police confirmed that detectives had been granted additional time to quiz a man in his 40s who was arrested in connection with the incident.
Typically, officers can only hold a suspect for 24 hours without charge........
