Coastal Construction, based in Heacham, was a long-standing partner of the club and its ‘official building contractor’, carrying out projects at Carrow Road and its training ground.

But the company has now ceased trading after being put into liquidation by its directors, brothers Kevin and Gary Waddison, owing creditors £1.06m.

This figure included more than £282,000 of the brothers’ own money, according to its statement of affairs on Companies House.

Norwich City was one of the company’s 26 creditors, claiming to be owed money for its sponsorship deal with the firm.

Coastal Construction also paid for a hospitality box at Carrow Road on matchdays.

It led to the club filing a petition to wind up the company in June last year, four months before it entered insolvency in October.

Norwich City did not disclose the amount it was owed by the company.

Director Kevin Waddison said he and his brother Gary injected around £300,000 into the company last year but said “unfortunately we could not trade any longer”.

“We did everything we possibly could to keep it going, but we got to the point where couldn't hold off anymore,” he said.

“It [Norwich City’s petition to wind up the company] shows the sort of pressure we were getting from some of our creditors.”

Mr Waddison said nutrient neutrality planning rules were the main reason for the company’s demise.

Nutrient neutrality is a planning requirement in England that ensures housing developments do not increase nutrient pollution – such as nitrogen and phosphorus - in protected habitats.

However, the requirements have caused significant delays to housing projects for construction firms.

“We had projects, but we were waiting for planning permission, which we just could not get over the line in time,” Mr Waddison added.

“We should have had planning on two jobs over two years ago. It is why so many building companies having been having issues.”

Coastal Construction was established by Peter Waddison, Kevin and Gary's father, who died in 2023, aged 75.
