This Torquay United summer won't be anything like last summer

Every Wednesday in the Herald Express, our Torquay United correspondent Richard Hughes takes a sideways look at what's going on in the world of the Gulls. This week, he looks at the kind of business he expects Paul Wotton to be doing this summer

This won’t be like last summer when Paul Wotton had to throw together a team that would be good enough to compete in the National League South – in quick time. This summer he will have time to be more patient, consider his choices more keenly, and take his time to get things right.

Not that he got much wrong last summer. Once he was able to sign players, they came at a rare old rate. Having only one player – Austen Booth – on the books, Wotton needed to get the numbers in to be ready for the first week of August. He will have had a list of players he wanted but he was never going to get them all.

More came in during the season – Jordan Young, Dylan Morgan and Matt Jay – and now Torquay United is a different proposition for targeted players, some of those players near the top of the list that........
