There was a period of time, when Torquay United were drawing 1-1 at Plainmoor on Saturday, that – had they scored a goal to go 2-1 ahead in the game against Chesham United – they would have been joint top of the National League South with three other teams, all of them on 80 points,
As it was, Torquay were destined to lose this one in a frustrating manner, while Truro City’s winner at Worthing meant there are now just two teams on 80 points at the top – Truro and Worthing. I know we keep banging on about it, but this is one hell of a close run-in – and Torquay, as Paul Wotton said after the defeat on Saturday: “We are right in the mix.”
