Congress May Kick Out 4 of Its Most Problematic Lawmakers

The race to become California’s next governor was thrown into disarray late last week following the emergence of numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against Representative Eric Swalwell, one of the leading Democratic candidates. Swalwell has officially ended his campaign, but pressure is growing for the representative to be expelled from the House entirely — as well as several others of his scandal-scarred colleagues.

On Saturday, Republican representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida announced that she would be filing a motion to expel Swalwell from Congress following a report from the San Francisco Chronicle that detailed claims from a former Swalwell staffer that the representative pursued her sexually and later assaulted her twice. CNN reported on allegations from three other women that Swalwell sent them unsolicited explicit messages, including nude photos. Swalwell has denied all of the allegations against him.

But Axios reports that Democrats are also pushing for the expulsion of Tony Gonzales, a Republican representative from Texas whose reelection bid was derailed by reports that he had a sexual relationship with a staffer who later died by suicide. The........
