Bell: What's up Canada? Liberals could win the election, are you nuts?

Poll shows Mark Carney-led Liberals are neck-and-neck with Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives. Other polls show Liberals gaining. Now Canada is really broken

What the heck is going on?

Oh Canada. Tell me it’s not real.

Tell me there is some massive error in the arithmetic.

I don’t want to contemplate the alternative, that many Canadians have simply lost their minds.

Putting the Liberals back in power.

Even thinking of the possibility? Even thinking of them holding Conservatives to a minority government? Even thinking they will get off with less than a thrashing?

Is this a cruel joke?

It’s not April 1 on the calendar, is it?

Is there an amnesia pandemic sweeping Canada?

But here is the latest math staring us in the face.

The nose count is from the good folks at Leger.

Other polls have come our way, so this one does not surprise.

The trend all over the nose-counting universe is going in the wrong direction.

The Liberals, under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for three more weeks, are still trailing Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives but now by only nine points.

Yes, nine percentage points. Not 25, not 20.

Mark Carney will almost certainly be the next leader of the Liberals.

How do the numbers look then?
