Row over skips in Tile Hill as council weighs options 'they will just be overfilled'

CoventryLive readers have been debating the suggestion for skips to be placed around Tile Hill to help residents dispose of bulky items such as furniture. Cllr Marcus Lapsa put forward the idea at last Tuesday’s full council meeting, but the proposal was met with scepticism from the cabinet member responsible.

He argued skips had successfully reduced fly-tipping in the past: “Years ago, skips were placed either on the green or at the end of blocks, and there wasn’t as much fly-tipping. Many residents simply can’t afford to have large items collected, and even when they can, they’re sometimes told it will take two or three months, which is completely unacceptable.

“If you look at the petition, most signatures are from the Banana Flats. Residents there constantly see mattresses and other items dumped on the green. The hope is the council will reconsider because the cost of clearing fly-tipping is huge.”
