Harry Merlin Piper, a native of Salou, is something of a genius or perhaps just a genius, period. A gifted ventriloquist and magician who can make all manner of things reappear and disappear – himself included – in the twinkling of an eye, he also accompanies these feats of sleight of hand and body with a genuinely comic range of expressions and patter not usually seen on the faces or heard from the mouths of most other professional magicians. And professional is what he is, having performed in public since he was a child, tutored by his English magician father, who runs a venue called the House of Illusion in Harry’s home town. For the last programme (broadcast on July 6th) of the last season of the Weekly Mag – the English language chat show with Catalan subtitles that goes out on 42 local TV........
