HEADING FOR THE HILLS

NASA is probably the world’s best-known acronym. “To boldly go where no man (or woman) has gone before” and all that. But it is not the most important. There is a relatively new one that has a bearing on life as we know it – NTZ.

We as a species obsess about the unknown. But did you know that more than 60 per cent of Earth is deep ocean and we have yet to explore 99 per cent of it? It is an out-of-sight out-of-mind dumping ground. Closer to home the far shallower Mediterranean, so rich in biodiversity – a hotspot with up to 30 per cent of species unique to its waters – holds a horrible truth. Shame on us.

We must all know that pollution, overfishing and the effects of climate........
