This is just one example of a teacher with more integrity than the district she worked for. How many more examples are out there, and how much damage is this manufactured façade doing to our educational system?

What does it say about a school district when, in the same year, a teacher who had been named Teacher of the Year at her school and was also recognized as a Blue Ribbon Teacher of the Year for the district chose to resign rather than continue to go along with a deception that was endangering her students' future?

Samira Hardcastle taught art at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Antioch. Yet in May, this award-winning teacher chose to submit a three-page resignation letter and to walk away from the Metro Nashville Public School District (MNPS).

On Tuesday, she appeared before the Metro Nashville Board of Education with that resignation letter in hand to explain exactly what led her to make such a drastic decision.

During her public comments to the board, she raised several concerns, including grading, staffing, and the issue of student behavior and discipline, which she gave particular weight to.

Hardcastle said teachers are being discouraged from formally reporting some behavioral problems, which she claims makes district statistics look better than what educators are experiencing in classrooms.

For its part, the school district denies Hardcastle’s accusations. A spokesperson told FOX 17 News that there is “no evidence” that Hardcastle’s allegations have been substantiated at JFK Middle School or........
