Do We Still Have a Representative Government?

After more than a week of debate and partisan posturing, we still don't have the SAVE Act passed. For those who might be confused about what the Act contains, it ONLY requires that a prospective voter provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote, and that our voter rolls ONLY contain registrations for legal citizens. Most of the text is simply directions on how to modify the text of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRM93) in accordance with the SAVE Act provisions.

It does NOT require in-person voting, use of paper ballots, photo ID, or any of the other desirable provisions necessary to ensure that our elections are honest, accurate, and free from significant fraud.. Opposition to the Act raises some serious questions about our Representatives and who they represent.

Opponents of the Act make a number of objections, most of which lack merit. Some claim that it would prohibit legal citizens who simply cannot provide proof of citizenship from voting. It appears these opponents cannot read, because the Act includes provision for those who lack suitable documentation to obtain the required documentation. Is voting less important than being able to get on an airplane where ID is required?

Others object that it would eliminate millions of voters already in the rolls from voting. There is some substance to this objection. The Act would indeed eliminate thousands of dead voters, as well as the millions of non-citizens that have been illegally registered and who are listed as active voters in the rolls of every state. Clearly, any party that depends on these dead and non-citizen and other ineligible voters to win will be at a significant disadvantage.
