Serious criminals could be jailed without jury trials in big court shake-up plan

The British legal system is grappling with a backlog of tens of thousands of cases, some of which may not start for years – but a major overhaul in the courts could expedite their resolution. A leading former judge has suggested scrapping jury trials for more serious crimes to accelerate the process.
