More bus routes face the axe as some suggest 'it's easier to just grab a taxi'

CambridgeshireLive readers have been sharing their thoughts on a report about local bus services and escalating costs. The focus of many was on reliability, routes, and whether buses can compete with trains on key corridors.

Two bus services that cost more than £100 per passenger to operate could be axed. The 8A between March and Milton Park and Ride and the 15 between Haslingfield, Bassingbourn, and Royston are currently subsidised by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

Documents released by the authority propose ending the services due to low passenger numbers and the expense of maintaining the services. The 8A bus service currently provides one journey a day in each direction between March and Milton Park and Ride.

The Combined Authority report revealed that the current contract price for the service is £188,753.02, meaning each passenger costs on average £100.33. The service route was previously altered to extend it to Milton Park and Ride following an earlier review........
