Council pours £150k into 20mph rollout as drivers brace for slower roads

CambridgeshireLive readers are unhappy to hear that more than £150,000 could be spent introducing new 20mph zones across Cambridgeshire in 2026. A list of 11 priority areas, chosen from 95 applications, has been approved by Cambridgeshire County councillors. Seven of the schemes are in South Cambridgeshire, two in Huntingdonshire and two in East Cambridgeshire.

The county council says it would cost almost £1.5m to deliver every suggested 20mph zone, far beyond the £160,000 budget available for next year. Projects that missed out will stay on the list for future funding rounds, with the council aiming to eventually approve them all. A separate programme for Cambridge city is also being developed. The full list of zones can be seen
