Opinion: A province's reputation is its economic infrastructure

Earlier this month, Alberta celebrated one of the most significant technology investment announcements in its history.

But Meta’s decision to build its first Canadian AI data centre in Alberta is more than just an announcement; it’s a signal that one of the world’s largest technology companies sees this province as a place worth betting on for decades to come. It validates years of work by governments, economic development organizations and industry leaders to position the province as a destination for the next generation of investment.

At the same time, Alberta continues to debate whether it should remain part of Canada. At first glance, these stories seem unrelated — but in reality, they’re joined at the hip.
