Varcoe: Pathways Alliance executive chair exits as deadline nears for massive carbon capture project

Former MEG Energy CEO Derek Evans has wrapped up his stint as executive chair of the Pathways Alliance, as the group of Canada’s largest oilsands producers is heading into a pivotal period.

Evans, who helped found Pathways Alliance in 2021 and was named executive chair for the consortium in May 2024, finished his tenure last week, according to the group.

“With Derek’s guidance and strong leadership, Pathways has been able to successfully advocate for the oilsands industry and progress the proposed Pathways (carbon capture and storage) project,” Pathways president Kendall Dilling said Friday in a statement.

“The recent Canada and Alberta government MOU is an important step toward achieving our shared goal of growing the energy industry and national economy.”
