From Saint Tropez to Naples: James Packer and Lindsay Fox drop anchor in the Mediterranean

It’s that time of year again. A flotilla of superyachts owned by Australian billionaires including James Packer and Lindsay Fox has descended on Saint Tropez, in the south of France.

The Mediterranean becomes a playground of the ultra-wealthy this time of year, particularly for the brand of antipodean billionaire uninterested in spending the summer sitting matchside at the World Cup or Wimbledon, trading luxury hotels for their palatial water toys.

For the well-heeled, superyachts are the ultimate holiday flex. And the longer the vessel, the better.

A quick look to see where the floating status symbols of some of Australia’s rich list regulars are anchored showed Packer’s 354-foot (108-metre) superyacht, IJE, had arrived in Saint Tropez after spending a few days at La Seyne-sur-mer. Packer has been hosting friends while moored off the French coast, with the Financial Review reporting on Thursday that the corporate titan had been joined on board by Packer’s old business partner and Hollywood film maker Brett Ratner, director of the Melania Trump promotional reel – sorry, documentary – along with legendary former boxer Mike Tyson.
